Not able to set up voicemail

Hi - when I tried to set up voicemail following the instructions on the website and in my new phone manual, I was asked for my voice mail box number. I do not know what it is. I've seen from other threads here that others have had the same experience and it was a result of not having voicemail included in their service billing - is this not included on all phones? I also just bought a second phone for my husband so if this will be an issue for him as well, I'd like to get them all taken care of at the same time. Can someone please contact me? Thanks!
