Weak signal/No Service

Purchased the LG900G last week and was absolutely satisfied with the service...
...until I compared my phone to the LG900G phones I purchased for my wife and daughter. Seems their phones receive a much stronger signal (3-5 bars) compared to mine (0-2).
I understand the serial number (or something to that effect) determines what carrier the signal is being received from. Seems I got the bum carrier. Was considering purchasing a signal booster, but it's more economical to replace the phone.
So my questions are, are there any other options to boosting my cell phone signal?
If not, exactly what should I be looking for when purchasing the replacement LG900G? (No sense replacing the phone if I get another with the "weak signal carrier".)
And finally, would I encounter any difficulty transferring service to the replacement phone since I just transferred service to the weak phone last week?
Thanks in advance.

Ok...here's what I've discovered. It's the sim card that determines what carrier signal the phone receives. My wife and daughter's phones have AT&T sim cards; mine is T-Mobile.
So my new question is can I take the sim card (AT&T) from my old phone and put it in my current phone? Would I have to re-activate the current phone for the new sim card to be recognized?

Phone rejected sim card. So is there sim card I could purchase to accept the AT&T signal or am I back to my original decision of purchasing a replacement LG900G with an AT&T sim card?

Sorry I didn't update sooner. Buried my mother Friday and I've been rather distracted.
Received the new sim card Friday. Was able to quickly activate the sim card, and I'm happy to say my cell now receives a consistently strong signal within my home.
Thanks again for assisting me in resolving this issue.
