Is there a new forced migration?

Is there a new forced migration?

Postby BellevueGuy » Fri Oct 14, 2016 9:42 pm

I received a message to phone for an urgent message. Without much explanation I was told that my current phone (LG) will no longer work after the end of the year. I was to get a free replacement or order a phone. Nothing was said about any changes in rates for the monthly plans. There is nothing explaining this on the web site.

If you old phone is a 2G phone, they are being phased out.

When the towers that you try to use your phone stop accepting 2G phones, you won't be able to use your older phone.

With the exception that text messages cost more now, the LG Flip Phone that Net10 provided with my Nokia1100 phone started have 2G issues, it's mostly a seemless transition.

I'm not pleased that incoming texts now cost me at least half a minute (they used to be free), and outgoing messages are also at least half a minute (they used to start at a third of a minute), but the service remains outstanding.

Your phone must be on the AT&T network. AT&T is shutting down the 2G data service, and along with it, GSM voice service at the end of the year. I thought voice on the 3G/4G networks was still GSM, but apparently not. It would seem that Net10 could just replace your SIM card with one for T-mobile's network, which is also GSM. Maybe you could ask them.
