So I get the same monthly “Brower Update” messages. After attempting to use the forum to get an answer, I spoke with a chat representative. The chat representative was clueless as to why I was getting the text, but acknowledged that they are from Net10. ‘She’ asked me to click on the link, which I did, ofcourse it took me to a search page.
I believe that they are simply attempting to generate traffic to an affiliate program, under the false pretext of a browser update. I believe this to be illegal.
The chat representative asked me to call a phone number, which I did. The phone representative was equally clueless and unable to help me. On June 18, he told me that he would submit my question about the origin of the text message (sent from phone number 39485) to an ‘investigator’ and promised that the investigator would contact me within 48 hours. It is July 9 and I have yet to be contacted.
I received another such text message on July 9. At that point, I filed a complaint with both the FCC
https://esupport.fcc.gov/ccmsforms/form ... ile.action and with the NC State Attorney General.
This is a deceptive business practice, and very unprofessional. If you agree with my assessment, I suggest that you file a complaint with the FCC as well.
