Samsung S390G- Calls 911 too easily!

Postby meganthompsonjohnson » Sun Dec 09, 2012 6:13 am

I searched all in my samsung s390g phone to make it not call SOS (911) automatically when the buttons get pushed one too many times even when locked but could not find anything. I Was just looking for my keys in my pocket where my phone was also and then heard a 911 operator asking what my emergency was from inside of my pocket. Another time it was just in my pocket while i was walking and i got a phone call and the message they left said that this number had just called 911 and hung up on them. I can not use this phone if it calls 911 this easily! What setting am i missing?

Someone really should address this and take responsibility. Samsung says it is Tracfone/net10's responsibility.

All I know is my boyfriend and I have had these phones for a few weeks and they have each pocket-dialed 112 by accident while locked and I will not keep a phone/service that allows this for much longer.

In fact tonight I just pulled the phone out of its own pocket in my purse and I saw it was asking "Send SOS?". Whew! close call again!

I agree. This is a severe issue with this phone. On the level that they actually need to be yanked from the shelves and have a recall made on the product. It's like the software programmer sat down and went, 'Gee, I wonder how many combinations to pocket dial 911 I can put on this thing...'

Another issue is if you rip movies to watch from your sd card, the video player on the phone does fine until the second half of the movie then the video stutters the rest of the way. It's a damn shame as I really liked all the other things about this phone, and I don't need an Android on unlimited. I just needed a good feature phone with a few entertainment options. Take care of the 911 issue and add in a better video player (maybe support a wider range of mp4 codecs and maybe even ogg vorbis) and you'll have a homerun feature phone. As it stands now, it's just completely unusable. Nobody wants to be tying up 911 operators or getting visits from the police just because they happen to shift in their chair and pocket dial!

So I called tech support and basically here's what happened- after 45 minutes of waiting you get someone who (after repeating that we need to learn how to lock the keypad  ) repeatedly states that all they can do is replace it with the same model. Also that it is the consumer's responsibility to know about the products they choose. Sure thing! I am now! No more Net10, no more Samsung for me. Apparently this is not the only Samsung that has this issue. It's not a feature, it's an idiotic design flaw that NO ONE will take responsibility for.
