I need to travel to another country for a year. So I want to on hold or just cancel my phone service ,however I am now not in state and it will be great of i can keep this phone number. What is the best recommendation?

You would need to port the phone number to another service before you cancel the contract in order to retain the phone number. Try to talk to your phone service provider for more assistance.
